Women and Hair Loss – Coping With Losing Your Hair

Whilst losing your hair is never easy, no matter who you are, but hair loss can be particularly difficult to deal with for women, especially if they are young or going through a difficult time in their life.

There are many different reasons for hair loss in women, including hormone deficiencies, age, stress, dehydration, as well as illness and side effects of medical treatment. It is estimated that as many as 8 million women in the UK suffer from hair loss, however, there is still a considerable social stigma associated with losing your hair when you are a woman, making this time all the more difficult. As hair is so commonly associated with beauty and femininity, going bald can be extremely hard to take.

It is not unusual for women to avoid social activities where their hair loss may be discovered, or become generally reclusive. Some women may even worry whether their friends will still like them, or their partner still love them. It is not uncommon for women to lose a lot of self-esteem, but there are ways to cope with hair loss.

By visiting a hair replacement clinic, a woman can find out the best solution for them. By using microscopy hair analysis technology, hair specialists can take a close look at the condition of the scalp, as well as individual hair follicles and hair bulbs. By looking closely at the scalp, they can often see problems taking place before the hair even penetrates through the scalp – this allows them to treat hair loss problems at the source rather than having to wait to until hair shows or having to identify why hair is not growing at all.

Once the cause of hair loss is identified, hair replacement specialists can then identify the right solution to help. In some cases of more minor hair loss, the problem can be treated with specialist scallop and shampoo products that are designed to strengthen and support the hair as it grows naturally, as well as balancing out any nutritional deficits in the roots of the hair.

If your hair is unlikely to grow back, there are other solutions for thinning hair or partial hair loss:
  • Powder based spray can be used to colour the scalp, creating the appearance of much thicker hair. These kind of products wash out and simple to use.
  • Stock or custom made human hair pieces can be colour matched and styled to blend in with a person’s own hair.
For women suffering with severe, or complete hair loss, human hair or synthetic wigs can be bought from stock or custom made to discreetly create the appearance of a full head of healthy hair. There are a number of considerations for a woman to make before choosing a wig. Synthetic hair wigs may be less expensive than human hair wigs, however, they cannot be styled, so if a woman wishes to wear her hair in different ways, she would have to buy more than one wig. However, if a woman is happy to wear just one style, a synthetic wig returns to same style when washed and are as such very low maintenance. On the other hand, human hair wigs are much more natural in terms of colour and feel, and can be styled in any way.

When it comes to making the choice of which wig to buy, it all comes down to personal preference, and what makes a woman feel better about herself, allowing her to feel more confident and happy.

It can also be hugely beneficial for women suffering with hair loss to talk to other women with the same problems to learn more about different coping methods - There are many Alopecia support groups around the UK. Some people may prefer to talk to others online and this can be equally helpful.

How Pink Hair Can Provide A Practical Solution For Women Experiencing Hair Loss

There are many reasons as to why women lose their hair, and here at Pink Hair Solutions we are able to provide a selection of realistic hair replacement systems which can help to ease the distress of the individual experiencing the hair loss. Hair loss can be caused by anything from stress and hormone imbalance, to undergoing chemotherapy treatment, alopecia or trichotillomania, and whatever the reason for the hair loss, it is bound to have a huge emotional effect on the woman involved.

We all use our hair to make a personal statement about us.  Whether we choose to style and colour our hair regularly or whether we prefer to go for the more natural look, our hair can be seen as a reflection of our personality, and most women would agree that our hair is a key element of our femininity.  Women who experience hair loss can therefore feel daunted at the prospect of losing their hair and will often want to speak to a specialist who can help to disguise their hair loss as discreetly as possible.

At Pink Hair Solutions our experienced team are able to offer women a caring and personal service in which the most suitable hair replacement system can be identified and utilised.  Whether the lady needs just a small section of hair loss to be covered, or perhaps a whole head, we will carefully choose a system which will match the woman’s natural hair colour and texture.  Our clients can choose from a hair system which either integrates human hair or artificial hair, and it is down to personal choice as to which hair is used within the hair replacement system.

In the past, it was usually fairly obvious if a woman was wearing a wig, however wigs have moved on enormously and it can be quite difficult to determine a wig from a woman’s natural head of hair.  We aim to use the most realistic hair replacement systems wherever possible in order to give the client the best possible result, to allow her to feel confident and back to her normal self.

If you are experiencing hair loss and you wish to learn more about hair replacement for women, please feel free to get in touch with us on 0121 350 3826 or visit our website.

Pink Hair Raise £3000 for Birmingham Children’s Hospital

The Pink Hair team are delighted to announce that we have raised an impressive £3000 for the Birmingham Children’s Hospital Cancer Charity.

Birmingham Children’s Hospital is the principal treatment centre for children with cancer in the West Midlands and with many of us knowing children who have been treated there, it seemed like the ideal candidate for our 2014 charitable cause.

The fundraising began back on 18th August 2014 when Director Linda Allan completed a one-mile sponsored swim for which Pink Hair and Advanced Appearance clients donated a grand sum of £1700.

A further £1300 was raised thanks to the generosity of all those who attended our Hair and Fashion show on 11th September, Sponsored by LSB Beauty & Skincare and Pink Hair.  Hollyfields Centre Club in Erdington kindly donated the venue free of charge and volunteer models showcased a themed hair and clothing range, provided by Wardrobe in Tamworth.

Guests enjoyed a canapĂ© and drinks reception upon arrival, before watching the fashion show and concluding the evening with a disco.

Hair styling for the evening was provided by Pink Hair ladies Kelly and Linda together with Sarah and Nina from Nina’s Hair.  Ganga Make-up provided airbrush make up and the evening was brilliantly compered by our very own Gill and Sam.  Twenty local businesses also showed their support by providing market stalls to promote their products to guests.

What made the evening even more poignant and summarised the reason we were all there was the appearance of Justine from Birmingham Children’s Hospital Charity, who made a speech to thank everyone for their hard work in and emphasised the importance of charitable donations to continue and grow the great work the charity does to make things better for poorly children.  Chelsea and Paige Taylor then went on to make a moving speech regarding their experiences as Paige had been treated at the hospital when she had cancer.  The speech talked about the effects of cancer on the whole family, and the importance of fundraising for the centre as it really can make a difference to patients.  Both Chelsea and Paige thanked Linda for her hard work in helping to support the charity.

From everyone at Pink Hair we’d like to thank all those who were involved in the organisation of the fashion show, our guests on the evening plus everyone who sponsored Linda’s swim.  We’re already thinking about next year’s big charity event so please do revisit our blog to keep up to date with our latest news.
